Jerusalem Day 12 (Friday, 13th)

Another grand morning although I didn't sleep that well last night.

Today we went further into Matthew's Gospel with Pino di Luccio sj. He is such a mine of information it is really difficult to keep focussed on what he is saying and where he is heading. I was talking to Chris Utri (from Melbourne) later in the day and I suggested that we should do what the football commentators do - each person does two minutes at a time - then the changeover - so whilst one person is taking notes on the present the other completes the notes on what has just happened.

Anyway, he really is quite brilliant but I'm not sure whether my plan would work because everyone seemed to be saying that we enjoyed what he is saying but find it hard to keep up with him and his ideas.

Yesterday afternoon I reread my notes and made some sense of them and then did some washing before sitting down to relax before going out to the Kol Nidre service, the commencement of Yom Kippur at the Hebrew Union Synagogue. The time of prayer was good but very long and was difficult to really participate in because of the length and the fact that most of the service was in Hebrew.

We got back for our evening meal well after 9pm so when it was finished it was all hands on deck to clear the dining room get everything ready for breakfast.

Now bed - definitely need it tonight.
