Jerusalem Day 10 (Wednesday, 11th)

Today we woke to the anniversary of the 11th September 2001, another sombre day after yesterday.

Our formal classes on Matthew's Gospel started this morning with Dr Pino di Luccio sj, an Italian who had studied in Mexico and then who did further studies in Scripture at the Hebrew University as well as the Biblical College in Jerusalem before teaching at the Biblicum in Rome. He now spends part of the time in Jerusalem at the Hebrew University and the other part in Rome.

Our three sessions this morning didn't get very far - if we were to take the reading of Matthew's Gospel as being the aim of the exercise.  Pino started with an introduction to the Gospels giving us an understanding of the structure and context of the 4 Gospels before commencing to walk through the 1st Chapter of Matthew. And even then we didn't get all the way through.

After lunch I headed out with a couple of the Tasmanians (Tony Brennan, Darryl Tuppen and Joe O'Hea) on a search for some replacement pieces for the Mass kit which met an unfortunate accident last evening as they were being returned to the sacristy. We managed to get and new jug and bowl for the ablutions and water as well as a new glass jug, with stopper, for the wine. The only difference is that it is bottle green and not white.

There was also a suggestion made at lunch that we might head out for a meal tonight so we visited a small restaurant called Amigo Emil and have booked in. Whilst walking up the hill past there we found a little photo shop which has some great pictures in it and a couple were purchased and the owner is looking for a larger version of one of the pictures for me to take back to Tassie - I'll go back later in the week to see whether he was successful or not.

The meal at the restaurant was great and a good time was had by all (as can be seen by the photo.

Now bed.
