The session started with some reflection on Rosh HaShanah the Feast Days celebrated last Thursday and Friday. The discussion also included some discussion about other events and experiences we've had during the past 11 days which was good.
It was also good to have time to reflect on the celebration of Yom Kippur this Saturday. The Jewish community will commence 25 hours of fasting from food and water from dusk Friday until dusk Saturday with the religious Jews spending a great deal of time in the Synagogue.
The material she gave us was also helpful in appreciating the Jewish understanding of Forgiveness and the difference between the individual and communal seeking of forgiveness. The passages from the Hebrew Scriptures especially Leviticus helped with understanding what is to happen and why so it was an interesting morning.
This afternoon, after going over my notes, I headed out with Libby, Maria and Mark to go to the Jaffa Gate to walk part of the Ramparts (above the wall of the old city). It was a little interesting to walk along looking down into some of the buildings which abut the wall but the other side of the story was the great views of the Old City. The picture below faces back towards the Tower of David Museum which extends through the middle of the photo.
Further along the walk we were able to look back towards Ecce Homo but all we could see was part of the dome of the Basilica but I thought that I'd include the photo anyway.
We then returned to the little Cafe across the Via Dolorosa where the other three had a very thick coffee and I enjoyed a cold drink.
Tonight I'm heading out for a quiet drink with one of the other participants here at the course so that should be goos. Then it will be bed as we have three (3) hours of classes tomorrow with Pino di Luccio continuing the Gospel of Matthew.
